Sailor’s Delight

What a week it was! First, I left on a business trip to Chicago on Monday. Then Tuesday while I was away there was an earthquake albeit a small one compared to west coast standards. Now, Hurricane Irene seems to have left it’s path along the east coast.

There was definitely some storm related activity happening here. Throughout the day the neighborhood men braved the storm to secure some of the boats that had come loose from their ropes.

It was touch and go for a while worrying that some of the docks were in imminent danger of floating away thankfully with some impromptu securing of dock lines so far we’ve come out of it relatively unscathed at home with some mild flooding in the yard.

But as I type the excitement and turmoil of the storm has passed and the old adage “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight” comes to mind.
