Today is my favorite holiday of the year, next to Christmas maybe. Bryan and I have off through the weekend so I’m really excited to have some fun in the sun with my boys.
This past weekend was on the crazy busy side for us. I’m still recovering from all the fun we had. On Saturday we hosted a surprise 30th birthday party for my brother-in-law Jason with 35 of his closets friends. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun. The party went off without a hitch and the guest of honor was very surprised. It always fun to surprise someone especially one who is notoriously difficult to surprise. We had typical BBQ menu of grilled chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad and plenty of beer.
During the party we took turns going out on the boat and the jet skis. At one time 4 of us went out for a ride with 2 skis. Our jet ski ride ended abruptly as one skis engine compartment flooded with water and was beginning to sink. Luckily we weren’t too far from shore and still within eyesight of the house. Jet ski engines have an impeller that suck water in and also gather lake weeds as you move through the shallow areas from the dock to the main part of the lake. Once you clear the weeds you need to jump into the lake and remove the weeds from the underside of the ski, then climb back from the water on to ride.
It takes a good deal of upper body strength, balance and a little experience to get on some of our smaller and more wobbly skis. Jen, my best bud (pictured in the blue dress with me below) had never ridden before and struggle to get up out of the water and onto the ski. The way the ski turned as she toppled over a couple times allowed water to flood the engine and almost sink the ski. Three of us jumped off of the skis and swam around while Jay (the birthday boy) towed the fast sinking ski to shore. A short swim later Bryan arrived with the boat to pluck us safely from the water and bring us to shore. We were never in any danger and got in a good summer swim while we waited for Bryan to come get us. All in all and in spite of our ride cut short it was a great fun day complete with new story of how Jen sunk almost sunk the ski and lived to tell about it
