White Walls, Are You On Board?

Hi all, I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far and I hope some of you enjoyed a nice long weekend.

The topic of the day on my mind is white walls. Are they totally your style? Or are they not for you? I used to be in the not-for-me camp but gorgeous images like the one above have been changing my mind. I’m really dying to paint a room white and I think our Living Room’s blue paint is on the chopping block. I’ve loved the blue for a time but as my style changes over time the blue just really isn’t going with how I want our whole house to feel.

Bryan’s not really 100% on board with white walls (he prefers more of a sand color) which is why I’m hesitating. But truth be told we rarely agree on any kind of color whatsoever. If I say green he says okay and picks a green that belongs in a fishing lodge in Montana. I’ll pick a more soft muted green. We could go round and round for hours in a paint store disagreeing on colors. Lucky for me he tires of any kind of debate involving shades of paint quickly leaving me to make the decisions. 😉

I asked my sister this white wall question over the weekend, She made a good point. That white walls may look totally gorgeous in beautiful photos  but can feel a little cold in real life.

So what do you all think? Are you for white walls? Do they leave you feeling cold?

Let us know in the comments.

Im living in my parents basement apartment right now and they painted it a sandy color all the way through. I cannot stand it! LOL I cant wait to move to my own place and paint every wall white. I love white walls because you can add so much color everywhere else and it looks great. You can switch out your furniture without having to worry about repainting too!

I can relate Hannah, when we were living in our apartment before buying this house all the walls were painted that awful builder beige, including all the trim and door hinges. I tend to agree about the white walls I’m leaning towards them but I’m getting resistance from the hubby! LOL, I plan to buy some samples soon and see how the different colors look on the wall.

I love my white walls. It took me 6 months to commit to a shade of white but I could not be happier with White Walls. Everything pops and it looks so fresh. I did paint one wall an accent colour. Blue. It is the wall that I have the largest windows on and the white just looks great. It is not cold or sterile. But it is the right shade of white for my space.

Ohh sounds pretty,I’m having the Which shade of white dilemma right now too! I need to go to the paint store to pick up some samples. Thanks for the input.

I think they can look cold if the rest of your decor isn’t done with something to offset that. I love the white walls look myself, but you need to have something like natural wood in a warm shade (like the photos you have above) to off-set that coldness.

And of course, there’s the shad of white you choose too. There are so many it can make your head spin, but if you compare them, you’ll see that some shades are warmer than others. If you go with a warmer shade of white, you can get that all white look and still have your home feeling cozy!

I agree Deann, I think that in addition to the wood tones which you pointed out. I also think they all have very colorful art on the wall to help balance the white. We have dark stained wood floors and tons of sunlight in the room. In the summer time it’s down right hot in the so it might benefit from white walls. I also tend to like wood furnishings over painted furniture which could help balance it all out.

      Thanks for all your input.
