A Few New Bedroom Tweaks

Can you believe it’s been a year already since we called our Master Bedroom makeover done for now? A year later there are still a few projects waiting in the wings that I’d love to tackle, like mirrored closet doors (kind of like these here) and our dresser is still waiting in the wings for it’s makeover. It’s all about the journey…or at least that’s what I keep saying to myself.

But, after living with the room for a while I’ve started to do a little tweaking again which was in part brought on by our latest trip to IKEA.

The floral pillows got swapped out for a more graphic black and white pillow we picked up while at IKEA. The graphic punch helps to offset the colorful drapery and as an cheap oakley sunglasses added bonus there are less pillow to move around, because let’s face it, we weren’t actually sleeping on the large Euro pillows they were mostly just decorative.

I also swapped out the more colorful painting over the bed’s right nightstand for a Ribba frame I had hanging on the other side of the room. I like that it feels more balance with the black and white print over the left side of the bed.

I also took the paintings down that that were leaning on top of the book case and replaced it with a couple of storage boxes. The black woven detail ties in nicely with the new black and white pillow which helps to draw your eye around the room.

A couple plants were added to the small side in between our chairs and to the bedside table. I once read a tip that every room should have something alive to help make it feel cozy and lived in. Fresh flowers are lovely in a bedroom but I don’t have the time or the money to keep up with that/ A few potted plants serve the same purpose and last a whole lot longer.

Probably, my favorite and most functional change of all has to be the new lamps (another IKEA find).

They’re a little industrial which helps to offset some of the frillier aspects of the room. They feel lighter than the old black lamps and the swing arm allows the lamp base to be pushed off to the side while still providing tons of light and a larger area to lay things down.

After living with the room for a year I still love it and swapping out a few details keep the room feeling fresh and new feeling long after the initial makeover.
