Filling a Large Wall with Art

08.5.13

Last we saw of the living room the wall came down (which still needs to be spackled), we painted the room white and hung frames on the large wall with the intention of adding some sort of art. Well they hung on the wall empty for a while. I’m nothing if not speedy ;) while I decided what to put in the frames.

Bryan’s always really wanted scenic pictures of the lake somewhere. I remembered seeing Cassie’s frame wall on Pinterest a while back so I sorted through my stash of 1001 pictures on the hard drive and narrowed it down to 6 candidates.

Finally after procrastinating for so long we have photos hanging on the wall.

But the really cool view happens if you turn around. The real thing is just through the sliding glass doors.

But wait there’s more. Did you notice anything else different from the before picture. Take another look.

Two things:

1) I painted the door black. I’m loving the black door, it really pops off the wall now instead of slinking into the background. I’m contemplating painting the closet door black too.  But first it needs to be switched out. It’s the only original door in the house and looks it. It also refuses to stay closed even with a door stop! Drives. Me. Nuts.

2: I sold the cane back chairs I reupholstered. I know I know, I loved them but I really want to go in a slightly different direction and also add some storage so the chairs are gone. I’m looking for the perfect piece to go over there. I’m thinking a nice console table with some doors and drawers would be perfect.

Now if only I could make that air conditioner disappear we’d be in business. I have a pretty simple idea though and I hope it works. I’ll let you know how it goes.

i WAS wondering where you purchased your frames, and what size prints you put inside. They look amazing!

Hi Priscilla, They’re Ribba Frames from Ikea. I purchased the poster prints from Walmart because I was impatient and they could do it in an hour. But if I had to do it over again I would use I’ve used them before and in my opinion they look a lot better in person than the ones you buy from Walmart.

Thanks so much for your reply Maria(I’m sorry, but my computer isn’t letting me use capital letters when typing)! I think you referenced a preferable place to have your photos printed, but the name was left off. Could you please give me the name. Also, what size were the Ribba frames? Thanks again, and your home is gorgeous!

No worries Priscilla, I think it’s the comment box for some reason doesn’t always let you capitalize. The frames themselves are 20.5 inches x 20.5 inches. The inside mat dimensions are 11.5 inches x 11.5 inches. I referenced Adorama Pix. They sell prints online. I think they even sell 12 x 12 inch prints that would be perfect for the frames.

      Hope this helps :)

Hi carolyn, It’s the LAPPLJUNG RUTA pillow from Ikea. It’s a great pillow especially for the price.
