Interesting post. I will report our experience as a traditional gallery (with nearly 30 years of activity) which had chosen to go also e-commerce.
We have integrated the Web, the traditional gallery, the live broadcastings we do, etc in a unique system.

In this way we can offer to the collector different way of engaging and collect: she / he could get information from the website (and real time chat) and book online a visit to the gallery.

She/he can buy directly online or ask for a quote or an artwork exchange.

She/he can watch our offers on TV or on internet streaming and phone or book an artwork from her / his smartphone

The collector could visit the gallery and ask us to send her / him by e-mail a rendering of an artwork in her / his house…

    …and so on…

I mean: Internet is now as real and important as any other aspect of this art-world, we must stop to think that there are separated parts (website, e-commerce, gallery, exhibition, magazines, etc): it’s only one system with immediate interactions between offline and online.

To have an idea, please visit our website (or our galleries :) ) at http://www.vecchiatoarte.com
