Mini Golf…Lake Style

I wanted to share a few photos of the new mini golf course I mentioned the other day that recently opened on our lake. For now we scoped it out floating by at a close distance as the sun was setting on Saturday. The opening of the mini golf course brings a little dose of family entertainment back to our lake, evidence of the once bustling family resort of years past.

I’m excited to try my hand at a round of mini golf sometime soon. Mini golf is quite the competitive tradition in our family. My sisters and I have more than a few memories of our parents taking for a round of mini golf during our annual family vacation. It always involved a health dose of friendly competition, hot pretzels and the inevitable “touchdown” style dancing when someone would get a hole in one.

When we go we plan to take Nikolas with us to carry on the tradition with the next generation, although he may be more interested in swinging the golf club over his head and throwing the ball rather than hitting it into the cup.  Should be an fun time 😉

Happy Monday, how was your weekend? Ours was too short as usual. But don’t the weekends always feel too short? Saturday was a bit cloudy and cool here. The rain loomed threatening to send everyone inside but in the end it was all bark and no bite. It’s stayed away and we managed to get some gardening and boating and even a few sunny skies.

While we were out on Saturday I took a few photos of one of my favorite sights on the lake. The LH Yacht Club still stand in salute of days gone by.

LH Yacht Club 2

The private yacht club built in 1910 is one of  the few remaining structures of a bygone era. Orchestras on Saturday night’s, vaudeville, movies, masquerade balls and boat races all were a mainstay of the Jazz age on the lake.

LH Yacht Club

To this day the yacht club hosts many events including the lake’s main summer attraction the 4th of July fireworks and many dances and boating activities for it’s members. Can you imagine being on the front lawn of this building among the painted ladies of the Jazz era, dancing and enjoying some summer summer? It must have been quite the scene.

Memorial Weekend 1

Memorial Weekend 15

On Friday afternoon we went for the first boat ride of the year…at the end of the day when the boat had been launched into the water Bryan grabbed Nikolas and I snagged the camera and we set off for an evening ride.

Memorial Weekend 4

This time I wanted to capture bits and pieces of the life we have the privilege of seeing everyday in our house by the lake. The pieces that are often rushed through as we race from one spot to the next, speeding along, wind in our face.

Memorial Weekend 8

It was a beautiful evening, the water was in all it’s sapphire blue glory.

Memorial Weekend 12

As the sun began to go down and lifeguard towers were unattended..

Memorial Weekend 5

…we floated home, looking forward to tomorrow and another day on the lake 🙂

Let me know if you enjoy seeing pieces of our lake?

Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone. Bryan and I are starting our weekend early by taking off today as well. We’re launching the boat today and plan to have some good old fashion unofficial start of summer fun.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Lake House Summer Weekends

Well Howdy,

I hope everyone is doing wonderful wherever you are. Here at the lake house we had a gloriously summery weekend. Just one week shy of the official, unofficial start of summer, things have been heating up and blooming away in our house by the lake.

With the sun shining we are spending less time inside and most of our hours outside. I’m convinced it’s the movement and life of the water that draws people out of their homes. If it’s sunny the entire neighborhood is outside, talking over fences, meeting at the dock, rowing off in their kayak.

As for us we’ve been outside doing all of the above with a healthy dose of gardening thrown in for good measure. Mostly I’ve been snapping a few photos of our summer fun.

Wanna see?

Our peonies just began to bloom over the weekend. Aren’t they the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen? This guy is the first bloom of the year. I just love that hot pink color.

Mystery Peonies

A few peony bushes we planted from bulbs a couple of years ago. This is the first year they are blooming and I planted them so long ago that I’ve forgotten what color they are. Now they’re teaming with buds so we’ll see what color they are soon!

Mamma Bird

We also have a new little family that has decided to build a home in our little corner of the lake. A mamma and daddy robin have made their home underneath the cover of the deck.

Baby Birds

The baby birds hatched less than a week ago and have been tweeting up a storm with their hungry little mouths wide open awaiting their mamma’s return.

Nik in the water

Our own little guy has been rediscovering the joys of the sprinkler in the summertime.

And I have spent a fair amount of my time laying in the lawn taking it all in.
