Little Boy’s Room Designed by Emily Henderson

It’s really rare that I see a little boy’s room designed and styled in a  way that feels like a child could live there but also has the agility to be completely transformed with a few accessories to an older child’s space. Emily Henderson did just that by using a bold and simple color palette of blue and yellow when designing a space influenced bedroom for a very lucky little boy named Graham.

“The main request from the parents was that it was timeless enough that they didn’t have to redo it in five years — sure, change out the textiles, have fun with the accessories, but the general design and the furniture should remain the same.”

I think Emily nailed it on the head from the cool graphic bedding to the acrylic box that houses a collection of toys to the giant custom artwork centered behind the bed. The whole room is unique and styled without feeling to “grown-up” for a kid to live there.

Nikolas’ Bedroom Makeover Inspiration

Ready to take a break from Christmas related posts and talk about something else? Ok cool me too. So after 21/2 years I’ve been thinking about finishing up Nikolas’ bedroom. Over the last 2 years it’s become a bit of a mish mosh and now that’s he’s getting a bit bigger he’s been gravitating towards playing in there more.  It’s time we fixed it up and added some things that will make his room more comfortable for him.

It’s been in limbo for a while now because I haven’t had any really good inspiration for a 2 year old boys room. Everything I have seen has been either too juvenile, too adult or 2 “themey.” Yup themey is a word now I just made it up.

Finally I found some inspiration from a few sources that I think I can work with. First up is this great site I found called Lay Baby Lay. It’s a site dedicated entirely to the most amazing nursery mood boards you have ever seen.

I know what you’re thinking, nursery mood boards? I’m not having a kid, not interested. Well I’m not either but these boards are so amazing. They’re not your typical nursery, you could change out the crib to a bed and you’d have a great foundation for any bedroom. I’m loving this mood board she did for BHG Style spotters. Manly accents, vintage artwork and a midcentury dresser that has me combing craigslist are all things I love.

This Steve McQueen Vintage room she did is also calling my name.

And this nautical room has me loving blue strips with pops of yellow throughout.

On another note I also spotted this on the cover of Anthlogy magazine here.

So many great ideas, I think I’m about ready to start on his new room! Hmm maybe after Christmas that is…
